Golden Neo-life Diamite International known simply "Neo-Life" or popular referred to as GNLD is a company that is into nutritional care and Healthcare products.
They operate globally and the company is said to have been founded in 1958 by a man known as Jerry Brassfield who serves as the Chairman of the company.
Golden Neo or Neo-life adopts a network marketing model to sell its products, meaning that, agents have to recruit more agents under them in order to build their network, (legs) in order to increase their point value strength & chances of earning more and to likewise scale up the different levels set as the company's strategic approach to enable people stay motivated and to increase profits.
Just like any network marketing company, there seem to be a lot of pressure on agents who need to meet certain monthly point values - Not only that, in recent times, the company has come under fire for many reasons, one which is the cost of its products. Many people say they can't afford it.
Neo-life did not clearly state whether their products are only for the elites, their agents however keeps marketing to low income regions or communities that can hardly afford even a caplet of any of its products.
Although that is not exactly the purpose of this report.
The reason Neo-life is on our radar is because of its operating system in the Nigerian market. How Golden Neo's agents or what we term as super agents are deceiving unsuspecting individuals into joining their business by placing ad campaigns in various places, using different formats isn't quite acceptable.
First, we believe network marketing shouldn't be advertised as a job opportunity to the public - Network marketing is a lifestyle business, hence its a path taken by choice and not one you should be deceived into using misleading ad campaign methods.
In Nigeria, most people who have ever heard about the company are ordinary job seekers, mostly in their youthful years who are looking for an average paying job or just a good job opportunity.
Either way, disappointingly for most of these people, when they get to the supposed company's premises, they're met with a different story entirely.
How Do These Super Agents Lure Unsuspecting Job Seekers?
1. Placement of job vacancy posters on streets.
- On most city highways, especially in Lagos, you'll find posters and hand written graffitis on walls with messages that states that there are various job openings with good wages, mostly higher than average.
2. Sharing of vacancy flyers (with the inscription) "high paying job opportunities" in factory with salary ranging from 50-150,000 naira. This is way higher than the average or standard wage in the country right now in most organizations.
3. Online ads on facebook and other social media.
- There have been many cases of "Job Op" ads on facebook and other social media platforms that directs people to a page where people are told that they have qualified for an interview and that they should come to their office for the interview.
On getting there, the story turns out differently - It ends up being the Neo-life office or training centre for new recruits.
Often, these job seekers are more like being forced to register as down-lines, which often cost between NGN4000-7500.
Many promises are made that in no time, they'll be offered opportunities to travel to probably London, France and Dubai, showing pictures of people who have travelled there through the Neo-life network marketing company.
But what you're not told is, you'll trek your legs out, almost die of hunger & thirst while trying to convince people to actually buy the products that comes with your subscribed package.
Oh, did we forget to mention that you'll now have to start buying the products and market it to meet two goals.
1. To meet the company's monthly sales targets.
2. To be able to get some minute profits so as to sustain yourself - probably to feed.
The point is, you're on your own, well, that's the idea they sell to you, that you'll become your own boss. Well, if this is the idea of being a boss, then something isn't right!
4. MORE....
- These agents also adopt other means such as going to rural areas to organize seminars that sort of promises people of a life changing opportunity.
While we do not doubt that one can make good money through network marketing or that Neo-life is a legitimate company - Our greater concern is, why trick people into the business. Just as we've mentioned before - Network marketing should be by choice, because it falls into the lifestyle business model category.
Its like forcing everyone to own a blogging business or fashion business.
People are actually looking for jobs, and while some have stumbled on network marketing and took it up and even succeeded at it, it shouldn't be disguised as a conventional job.
People go to the disguised Neo-life job interviews with their credentials (qualifications) what does this tell you?
It means these people need a job, not some network marketing business that they can hardly pay the registration fee.
Now, as this persist, should the Nigerian government or any other affected country suspend the activities of this company, pending till they're able to address this problem from within?
Have you had an experience with this company or any other network marketing company that mislead you?
What was your experience like?
